WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BOARD

COMMITTEES
OVERVIEW

Committees help facilitate THE board’s work

The Bergen County Workforce Development Board (Bergen WDB) carries out most of its work through action-oriented committees.

Some committees are required by legislation, while other committees are established at the discretion of the Board. Additional committees can be deemed “standing” committees and incorporated into the bylaws or can serve as temporary task forces and terminate once its work is accomplished.

This type of committee structure provides members with opportunities to become fully engaged in meaningful work and thoroughly knowledgeable about community workforce issues.

Committee Appointments

The Bergen WDB has several standing committees and project-based subcommittees — the lifeblood of the organization.

The bylaws govern the process for appointing committee members. In general, applications are continually accepted and are reviewed by the Members and Executive Director for consideration.

Recommendations are sent to the Board Officers for final approval and appointments and are evaluated on an annual basis.

RESOURCES :
ABILITIES

The Abilities Committee assists with planning and oversight relating to providing services to individuals with disabilities including the Project SEARCH program.

WORKFORCE EDUCATION

The Workforce Education Committee coordinates workforce education, training, and literacy needs — the skills necessary to enter, reenter, and advance in the workforce such as soft and basic skills, English language, and literacy.

YOUTH (16-24)

The Youth Committee provides strategic leadership for local youth workforce development under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and creates linkages between youth programs and Job Center services.

ONE-STOP PARTNERS

One-Stop Partners are responsible for administering separate workforce programs and funding streams. They meet to collaborate to create a seamless system of service delivery that will enhance quality of service.

When people participate in a committee or project — they are empowered to take a leadership role in the local workforce development system.
