OCCUPATIONAL TRAINING

SHORT-TERM TRAINING + TUITION ASSISTANCE
PROGRAM OVERVIEW

NEED TRAINING TO GET A JOB AND CAN’T AFFORD IT?

You may be eligible for tuition assistance to help cover the cost of education and training.

Short-term training can help you find a job quickly and earn more money.

Many programs lead to a certificate, giving you a helpful edge in the job market and may include technical and college training programs.

We want you to return to work as quickly as possible and are here to help you make an informed decision.

Speak to a career counselor to determine if you qualify for these programs:

  • WIOA Grant / Individual Training Account (ITA): Individuals needing to upgrade their skills or obtain required certification to secure and maintain employment in an in-demand occupation may be eligible for funding through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).
  • Unemployment Tuition Waiver: Eligible unemployed individuals can enroll, tuition-free, in courses at public colleges and universities in New Jersey when seats are available.
  • Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (DVRS): Eligible work-ready individuals who have a documented disability, substantial impediment to employment, and economic hardship may be eligible for funding for education and training through DVRS.
Benefits of short-term training:
  • Quicker access to employment: Short-term training programs can be completed in a few weeks or months, which can get you back into the workforce more quickly.
  • Focus on in-demand skills: WIOA-funded training programs are designed to teach you the skills in the highest demand in the local economy.
  • Flexibility: Some programs are offered online or in the evening, which makes them more accessible.
  • Improve job prospects: Upskilling helps you become more competitive in the job market and increases your chances of getting hired.
  • Increase earnings: Job seekers who complete short-term training programs often earn higher wages than those who don’t.
